Why you so speechless all the time?

Wow, I can't believe how long I've been putting off this post. Actually many posts. I don't know if it's because I wasn't feeling inspired to write anything, or whether it was my crazy work schedule. Either-or, I'm back to it.

First things first, song of the month. I can't believe that it's almost the end of April and I haven't even posted my March song of the month. With that being said, I DO in fact have a choice for March.

I don't know whether it was Lady Gaga's Telephone video that got me to listen to The Fame Monster fully, but the fact that it took me this long to listen to her album is pure blasphemy. I had watched her perform on SNL back in... well I don't even remember, but the point is her performance gave me chills. I got the album and started to listen to it. Actually, I didn't just listen to it, I obsessed over it for the entire month of March and well into this month. And if I'm lucky enough, I'll be able to see her work the stage at the ACC this July. She's the most eccentric artist in the business, and I fully praise her for what she's doing. All this being said, there was one particular song that stood out to me on my beloved Fame Monster, that being Speechless. I had watched a couple Youtube videos of her singing this song, and the hairs on my arm stood up. I just love the sound of her voice, and how she can command an audience to listen with just her voice. Powerful stuff I tell yah.

February Song of the Month

I know, I know this is a week late. And to be completely honest it's not that I didn't know what album it was coming from, it was because I was totally stumped on picking between two songs. Actually I had been ready to write this post last week and was looking for some footage to go a long with it. Anyways, let's hop to it.

Sade... Sade, Sade, Sade. What can I say, I've been listening to the Solider of Love album everyday before I go to work. It's my "getting ready" album. Rightly so, because this album is just so relaxing that it makes me forget about where I'm going, and that's what an albums suppose to do, right?

Like I said I was stuck between two songs, well three by the end of last week, but then I grew some and had narrowed it down to two, and essentially down to one. That one being track title, The Moon and the Sky. It's a great opening track to the album, and pretty much draws you in pretty deep. Generally when I listen to an album the first track is pivotal and letting me know whether I will enjoy the album. This track did that. Enjoy!

The Box

Photobucket

What a long day. My roommate asked me if I could be her model in her theater make-up class, and let me tell you being the model is just as tiring as being the make-up artist. I have a new found respect for some of my make-up victims, removing that make-up was insane. Her idea was to do a Dia de los Muertos inspired look, and it turned out fantastic. I can't wait to see the prints.

Anyways being around all these talented make-up artists just got me thinking about some of my favorite make-up artists. One in particular being the Miss Alex Box, creator and founder of Illamasqua cosmetics. Her work is very bold and colorful, quite graphic. Her cosmetic line Illamasqua is a company where their slogan is, "make-up for your alter-ego" and is it ever. Seeing their campaigns makes me so excited to get into the make-up industry, because to be frank this is the type of work that I'm looking to get into, bold, graphic, challenging. Here are a few of her campaign ads, they're fabulous.

Anna Sui Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

PhotobucketPhotobucket
The 60's are back for Anna Sui's 2010 Fall/Winter collection. With a vibrant palette, bold floral prints, and of course fur, this collection radiates gorgeousness. I'm loving the slouchy emerald green leather boots, and the beautiful fur scarves. This collection makes me want to rent out a cabin in the middle of no where, and just enjoy nature. Stunning!

Honor Confers your Crown

Two posts in one day?!?! I just had to write about this album. The beautiful Helen Folasade Adu delivers with this beautifully captivating album. It cascades chaos and sensuality with it's organic grooving rhythm, and is everything that I needed in an album right now. Can't wait to listen to the entire thing!

This performance almost brought me to tears.

It all started with an apple

Ana Pascal: What are they?
Harold Crick: Flours.
Ana Pascal: What?

Harold Crick: I brought you flours.
Ana Pascal: Um... , and you carried them all the way here?
Harold Crick: Miss Pascal, I've been odd, and I, I know I've been odd, and... I want you.
Ana Pascal: What?
Harold Crick: There are many reasons, there are so many influences in my life, that are telling me, at times, quite literally, that I should come here and bring you these, but I'm doing this because I want you.
Ana Pascal: You want me?
Harold Crick: In no uncertain terms.
Harold Crick: Because I want you.

Thanks babe, for making this our movie.

Set a sail, set a rail, met them kings and queens

I had the good fortune of catching Jaime T in 2007, back when Virgin Fest was good. I hadn't heard much of him, but I really enjoyed his feel-good sound. Anywhoooo, I've been trying to listen to every album on my Ipod at least once, that's how I came across Kings & Queens. Some of my fave songs on the album include 368, The Man's Machine, and of course Earth, Wind, and Fire.

I usually obsess over an album and neglect the other music I have on my Ipod. I've decided to kick the bad habit and explore my Ipod more often. I'm looking forward to the gems that I'll be finding.

Enjoy!

I haven't made a fashion post in a while, and it's quite over due. It's a new year and winter doesn't seem to be lasting to long here in Toronto. We've been getting a fair bit of rain, and I'm not complaining one bit.

Just this past weekend I went out with my roommate to go boot shopping. We made our way down to the shoe shops on Queen St. I love Queen St because each store is so different. You find yourself getting lost in all its glory. She ended up getting a pair of green Hunter booties, and a pair of mid-calf brown leather boots with stud detailing.

While shopping, I realized that retail spring happens in a week, so of course this makes me very excited for what this year's spring trends have to offer in fashion.

I of course love to pair light pretty things with hard-masculine pieces. Floral leggings and leather jackets reeks of hard and soft. This particular leather jacket is a stunner. This Theory made Robena Airy leather jacket has such a relaxed feeling to it, almost lazy. I'm hoping during my vacation in the UK that I come across something similar, if not exact, to this beautiful creation.

Another trend I'm excited about, FLORAL. Floral everything! Floral blazers, floral tops, hell even floral leggings. Nothing says spring like flowers. I will be making my way over to Topshop to purchase a pair of red rose jeggings (jeans that are leggings). Oh Liverpool, you await me with open arms full of superb shopping trips. I can't wait!

Liberation is Key

One of my new year's resolution was to start painting again. Painting is something I've always been really good at, and enjoyed doing. But when I started my first year in college taking Visual arts, I quickly gained a dislike for it. It had become too much of a chore.

It must have been a phase, because when I started this piece for a friend it felt so right to be painting again. It's gotten my creative juices flowing. I've come up with a few more pieces that I want to do, unfortunately those will have to wait. I've been hired on to do some pieces for a few family members and friends. So, I'll keep you updated on what I'm painting, and post pictures of my newest pieces on here.

Enjoy.

Just do it already

After much deliberation, I decided to go through with getting a shorter haircut. I was already short to begin with, but I decided to go even shorter to get it all out of my system. I haven't been this short since the sixth grade, and so far I'm absolutely loving it.

Patterns

It's a new year, and I find myself getting back to my old self again. How, you ask? Well, I got myself a gym membership, I'm starting to paint again, and I'm applying to school. Basically, I'm getting my act together. I'm going to be 22 this year and I've finally narrowed down my options and chosen the field that I want to work in.

Since this is a new year, I've decided to introduce a new segment on my blog called Song of the Month. I figured this would bring me out of the trance that I've been in ever since listening to The Temper Trap's, Conditions. How will I choose the Song of the Month? Well, my criteria stands as follows: I have listened to the song more then 3 times in a day, I immediately turn to this song whenever I turn my Ipod on, and I sing the lyrics in my sleep. Okay, so that last step is a bit of a stretch, but lets just say it has to catch my ear so-much-so that I want to dream about it.

So with that, I will introduce my choice for the song of January.

This British alt-rock trio hail from Southampton, England (don't we just love the British.) They go by the name, Band of Skulls. Their latest album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, has been on repeat on my Ipod for the remaining days of 2009 and will continue to do so until I find something else to obsess over. The song I have chosen for this month's segment is none other than, Patterns. Their bassist Emma Richardson does the vocals for this song, and does a damn good job of it. So, do yourself a favour and have a listen.
